As I recall, around level 8?

I am currently soloing with a Fighter/Mage/Cleric and want to know what my max levels are going to be.

three things that can really help you at the start are: 1) a char with good AC, upfront (normally an armored fighter) 2) one spellcaster, bard or mage, with the Sleep spell 3) the rest (cleric, thief, other fighters) with ranged weapons, preferably bows. Technically, you can reach a max of level 7 in thief and still be able to regain your thief abilities, but her mage won't be able to reach max level.

So for me it depends on how badly I need a mage. A normal mage can only get to level 9. The highest level in Baldur's Gate II is 40, but some classes will not reach that level even if pure and others will not reach it unless pure.

I prefer her as a thief.

Multi-class is great once you get to BG2, but there's so much wasted experience in the first one because of the way it's divided. “On level up characters will be able to continue with their current class or choose a new class, provided they meet the requirements.”. I think it's a good idea to dual from a thief to anything else after a certain amount of levels because, other than HLAs, I find a high level thief to be pretty useless.
