You have somewhat the right idea on Garrick, bards and bard song are a bit tricky to use on a first time playthrough, and it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to swap him out for Kivan - especially considering you already have two arcane casters.
Dual classing is a pain since you lose out on those thieving skills until you reach level thief5/mage6 which can take a long time in a 6-man party. I was thinking a fighter would balance out what I have.
