Turn left on Dutch Oven Road and follow the curve for less than 0.2 miles to the parking lot on the left. Potts Mountain Road can be a bumpy ride from time to time but it's the out of the way feel that keeps the crowds way down! You'll have to walk through some growth to get out on the rocks to get the view, but it's incredibly and definitely worth it! The drive in is beautiful, but the trail is overgrown from lack of use.

There was a fair amount of incline both going and coming. About three miles off of route 311 down a dirt road with some pot holes.

The parking lot was very full when we arrived at the trailhead around 10am on a Saturday.

Both directions are tough. I did counter-clockwise like others recommended, though I don’t think it matters much. Follow the signs for the Hanging Rock Overlook. There were some rocks, but it was not a rocky trail at all. However, even in the summer a nice morning stroll can be productive for finding neotropical nesting species. we didnt have walking sticks but would reccomend. The trail isn’t maintained and doesn’t seem to have much traffic. Had no trouble finding a campsite on our return and overall lovely time!
