The Seth Lover uses AlNiCo 2 where as the 59 has AlNiCo 5, and I think that's what sets them apart more than anything. I have experience with 59's and always put an a4 in them (neck position). A2's might be too dark though on a hollowbody? Jon has done work on getting the formulation of magnets has made for him for his pickups (and that he sells with those tonal descriptors) vintage accurate with regard to composition.

I kept the height and pole pieces of the pickups even to the best of my ability. Yes I have tried the 59 with the stock a5. If you prefer a softer highs and lows, with a more emphasized mid range, you seem to get that with the weaker AlNiCo 2/3/4 bars in general, and you get it with the Seth Lover set.
