McAfee was wearing down the system more than Bitdefender and Emsisoft wearing down together. I have tried testing Symantec, Sophos, Webroot and BitDefender, however, I cannot even test the antivirus software because Defender nabs the test virus before any of the antivirus softwares can even see it. All these recommendations are good, I also use Avast but most AVs are about as good as each other, barring Norton and McAfee, which are complete garbage. Webroot runs perfectly well when Windows Defender is also running. If it detects another AV it will disable parts of itself. Just from my experience with Kaspersky. I tried a few older malware samples that got through whilst they were detected by Defender.

The best anti virus I've found is common sense. Windows defender does pretty well coexisting with other AV/malware products. Recently I changed to kaspersky due to cleaner interface. It's not the same defender you are used to on vista / 7/ 8. Webroot doesn't even participate in AV Comparatives for this reason. I use Webroot in an enterprise environment and Windows defender (built into win 10) is more than enough.
That decision has been a thousand times more effective at reducing our malware rates. Oh and malwarebyte should be installed too.
