Haven't played much yet but so far I like it a lot! I would suggest being good. You do the right thing, even if it goes against society. However, neutrality is impossible - the gods wouldn't gift such men their powers.

If you wanted to play as another god's zealot - you were simply no longer a paladin, but a zealot warrior cleric. Chaotic Neutral is more just "I do what I want when I want because I want and I don't care if someone gets in my way". Fighters and archers are really good in BG1. I would have thought I would be true neutral, but the description doesn't really sound like my play style at all. It is worth being good for Minsc and Boo alone.
Thieves are not hard to come by and also not very useful except for picking locks and disarming traps.
Why does this matter? Why did they change alignment options for Avenger and Inquisitor in the Enhanced Edition? During the story your character will get special skills that vary according to your alignment. Fighter type classes don't have this problem and are pretty effective at all levels. The DnD outlook into Paladins is a very strict one - they are paragons of virtue and order, and sometimes even a bad thought can make him fall. I checked over both BG descriptions of Paladin and Inquisitor Kit, and even found Complete Paladin's Handbook (ADnD), and it really seems to be oversight by Black Isle, as the Handbook didn't show any changes to alignment for Inquisitor, and Paladins were clearly stated as LG-only. The reputation system is really broken. Let me point out that one of the flaws of Baldur's Gate is that it rewards evil characters more than it does good characters. Press J to jump to the feed. This is for several reasons: You get a game over if your main character dies, but not if any other character dies. I've now played through all of Baldur's Gate I once and Shadows of Amn twice and have concluded that, unless I'm really missing something, alignment doesn't matter in the least. All druids can be only True Neutral, kits included. So evil characters have to pay ridiculous sums of money for things. Does anyone still have the vanilla version and can actually confirm/deny that these options existed? For example, paladins and rangers can't start out being evil or neutral, because by definition they're supposed to be good guys. Minsc and Boo stand ready. Certain classes are limited to certain alignments. Dual classing and multiclassing are advanced options and you can really muck up your main character's effectiveness if you don't know what you're doing. Ie, steal from the rich, primarily for myself.

In the original version of BG2 you could make an Avenger that was Neutral Good or Neutral Evil in addition instead of just True Neutral, and Inquisitors were allowed to be Chaotic Good and Neutral Good instead of just Lawful Good like the rest of the paladins? in BG2). Paladins and Blackguards are people who are at the deep opposites of alignment axis - LG and CE respectively. As for race class, go with what you think would be cool (but thief is pretty redundant as there are loads of thieves who can join your party). These were bugs fixed. I'd say Han/Robin Hood are either Chaotic Good or Lawful Neutral depending on how you want to spin things. There are 9 different alignments within Baldur's Gate. Very few people fit one specific alignment perfectly.

It reminds me of Kotor a lot, mixed with... Elder scrolls I guess? Robin Hood is a strong Chaotic Good, by the way. Seconding this, I made a lot of Inquisitors in the original game and am fairly certain LG was the only alignment option they had. You pick the one that most reflects what you imagine your character acting like. It just seems a bit weird that they would take that option away. It's partly a role-playing thing. Close . I don't remember the avenger very well, but for sure all paladins had to be lg. While the descriptions are quite lengthy for each alignment, some of them kinda confuse me. You also miss out on a lot of XP because there are almost no quests oriented for evil characters. The more lawful or good you are, the higher it is.
Just use EEKeeper. I am not so sure the originals were so lax about alignment restrictions. Great summary of what was intended; one item that never made sense to me was Blackguards being Chaotic Evil, though, as I personally think Lawful Evil makes more sense in terms of opposition to a Paladin. And as far as your class, be whatever you want. So I like to play a lot of RPGs and I always heard how good this series is. Can't really be a good paladin if you don't agree with your order's dictates. Any help that you can provide on why this occurred is appreciated, as I started with AD&D 2nd Edition but never really found good information for why this occurred. He sounds like he will mostly be doing what he perceives as good or following some sort of code, while not sticking strictly to the law. Baldur's Gate certainly wasn't the first computer game that used AD&D rules - there were a host of mostly forgettable (and, indeed, forgotten) games that predated it. I won't talk about Avengers because druids aren't really my expertise but for Inquisitors - there should have never been Neutral Good Paladins and even Chaotic Good is broaching on it. As long as you have someone who can pick locks and heal in your party, plus two tanks, the rest will work itself out. Don't bother playing an evil character in the BG games, it just doesn't work very well. Keep in mind alignments are not strict. Rep affects a lot of things. In ADnD, it was even stricter - only humans could be such. And recommended race and class?
